Former Mayor Launches Newspaper
Ruben Segura, former mayor of Sunland Park, began publishing a bi-monthly newspaper, "The Sunland Park-Santa Teresa Journal." The first edition was published on September 26. Segura, who steered the City of Sunland Park as mayor for twelve years, is one of the most experienced politicos in the Valle del Sur, and should be in an ideal position to cover news from that part of the Valley, and to comment on developments throughout the region. During Segura's tenure as mayor Sunland Park grew phenomenally, with major expansions of the casino/racing track, major developments in the Santa Teresa border crossing area, rapid growth in the urban centers, and movement toward the creation of an international border crossing between Anapra and Sunland Park. Segura announced early this year he would not be a candidate in the March, 2008 mayoral election, and was replaced by Martin Resendiz as mayor after a spirited election. We wish Ruben Segura the very best in his new venture.
